As part of the implementation of the DAAD project “Digital Education and Artificial Intelligence”, Prof. Dr. Tetiana Tkachova, Prof. Oleg Kobylin and Prof. Sergii Sakalo from Kharkiv National University of Radio Electronics visited the L3S Research Center from 11.12.2021 to 18.12.2021.
The invited professors met Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Nejdl and L3S researchers for a discussion. Other external guests, participated online in the meeting.
The first speaker was Prof. Dr. Murad Omarov (Vice-Rector on International Cooperation in NURE). Among other things, he emphasized the importance of the partnership between NURE and LUH that started in 2005. Since this time, several projects were carried out within the framework of the partnership.
Associate Prof. Vasyl Lykhograi from the Department of Computer Radio Engineering and Technical Information Security Systems (hereinafter – CRETISS), Faculty of Information Radio Technologies and Technical Information Security (hereinafter – IRTIS), and Prof. Sergii Sakalo, the dean of the faculty mentioned above, presented scientific findings in the fields of Wireless power transmission for different RF tasks; Power Harvesting via RF waves; UWB antenna with different form of the generatrix; Antenna system for an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) passive radio direction-finding mobile complex; Wrap-around patch array antenna.
Prof. Sergii Sakalo presented the educational program “Information Technologies of the Internet of Things” on the speciality “Information Systems and Technologies”.
Prof. Oleg Kobylin (Head of the Informatics Department in NURE) gave a presentation regarding the work and structure of the department, namely, what students learn during their bachelor and master degrees, and where they can work after they graduate from KNURE.
During the meeting, the status of the integration of the AI course as part of the implementation of the DAAD project “Digital Education and Artificial Intelligence” was discussed. In addition, the possibility of a double diploma for Ukrainian and German students was considered.
Oleksandr Hulyi (technician at L3S) gave a tour to Prof. Oleg Kobylin. He showed the server rooms, presented the GPU and Hadoop clusters, and the network infrastructure.
In order to strengthen and expand the cooperation, and also to exchange ideas on further cooperation between the universities, Nataliya Butych (Regional Coordinator of Central and Eastern Europe from LUH) held an online meeting with the guests and shared information regarding specifics of study for incoming students, partner programs, and some examples of exchange student projects from different institutes.
Prof. Dr Ralph Ewerth together with our guests discussed the project “Leibniz AI Academy”, the organisation of the study process at LUH, as well as how students can participate in lectures by using the Stud.IP web portal.

Furthermore, Prof. Tetiana Tkachova, Prof. Oleg Kobylin and Prof. Sergii Sakalo were listeners of Pavia Winter School “AI in Healthcare”. They got acquainted with the materials of the lecturers who participated in the winter school. For the invited guests it was a great opportunity to participate in the winter school, to see the organisation process of it and which topics are now relevant in this area.
